Activists Descend on Walmarts with Halloween Messages to Take Back Electronics for Recycling

Walmart shoppers witnessed flash actions in many communities this Halloween weekend.

Ghostbusters rounded up Zombie TVs in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester and other Addams Family characters clicked their fingers to “Recycle TVs and Computers” in Houston. A banner calling on Walmart to take back electronics was floated up to the ceiling into the Wallingford CT Walmart.

Zombie TVs were also doing the Monster Mash calling for a Walmart TV Recycling Match in Dallas and Austin TX. In Syracuse NY activists sang a song that included “Recycle TVs, like Best Buy already does” in the lyrics.

Walmart shoppers seemed to enjoy the entertainment and took video of their own. Contact us (info AT TakeItBackWalmart.com) if you have any video you would like to share!

You can help press Walmart to start e-Cycling by contacting them via social media: Post a message today on Walmart’s “What’s on Your Mind” Facebook page calling on the company to take back e-waste for recycling. You can post the following message, or paraphrase it in your own words:

"Walmart should offer electronic waste recycling options nationwide, something that Best Buy already does. Over 100 religious leaders in all 50 states have called on your company to demonstrate good stewardship. When will you do something to offer all your customers free and convenient recycling for their old electronics?"

It was published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette to coincide with a star-studded, early 50th-birthday celebration at Walmart's annual shareholders' meeting Friday in Arkansas.
